During a guided walk through the Des Cartier Rain Forest on St. Lucia, I saw these stunning leaves on the side of the trail. The contrast of the dark veins against the light-colored leaf makes a striking design in monochrome. I have been unable to identify the tree these leaves came from. The rainforest is protected and the only entry allowed is with a guide. As on many other Caribbean islands, St. Lucia struggles to maintain a balance between protecting the fragile habitat for both flora and fauna and embracing the growing tourist industry.
